Young Democrats of South Dakota Sign Letter Calling for Senator Manchin to Support Build Back Better
National Committee Representatives of the Young Democrats of South Dakota to the Young Democrats of America Danielle Bloom, Logan Mueller, and President Addison Miller signed on to a letter alongside several national committee members of YDA Chartered Units throughout the nation. The letter was sent to Joe Manchin, calling upon him to vote in support of President Biden’s Build Back Better bill. Read the letter below:
“
The Honorable Joseph Manchin III
306 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Joe Manchin,
As members of the Young Democrats of America and members of the Democratic Party, we were greatly disappointed to hear that you backed out of supporting the Build Back Better Act and that you would not vote for it when it came to the floor. However, we are calling on your better judgment and morals so that you revisit your position and see that this legislation is something that our working families desperately need.
Between the millions of dollars that it would save for life-sustaining medications like insulin and the amount of opportunities it would give our working families with the Child Tax Credit, we know that this would greatly benefit our American working families.
All of those who are struggling to support their families by working while having young children would finally get the child care and economic stimulus they need.
Rural and small towns that were decimated by the recent recessions will see economic booms with the creation of unionized, green, renewable energy jobs.
Those having to decide between putting food on the table or managing medical needs would no longer have to make that impossible choice.
Finally, none of this matters if we do not have a planet to live on in the future, which is why we must act on the climate crisis now.
All of this is possible through this legislation and we would be more than happy to have a conversation with you about all of the benefits it would mean for our generaiton, your granchildren’s generation, and all of those that will follow us.
The Democratic Party has been and should be the party of the working class. We need to represent the issues and viewpoints of the vast majority of Americans. We are the party of empathy and compassion to all those who need it, as it has been shown time and time again. The BBB Act is the culmination of what we stand for and we are asking that you revisit your position.
We know you are a man of honor and because of that, we know that you know the value of a person’s word when they declare their intention to support an issue or legislation, especially when that oath was given to the President of the United States. This vital legislation will not only aid young professionals in West Virginia, but young professionals in every state and territory in our great nation.
We, the undersigned, representing more than 20,00 Young Democrats across the United States of America, ask that you reconsider your position and join your Democratic colleagues in supporting and voting for the Build Back Better Act in the United States Senate.
sincerely,
